The Beverly Road Project: Update Four

Greetings! I’m on vacation this week, well more like a “staycation” as I am local. I feel ecstatic as I am emulating the life of a full-time writer and not the gal that must venture into an office each morning.

From my list of goals this past week, one of them included meeting a published author. And that I did. Days ago it happened to catch my eye that Lauren Weisberger (many of you may know her as the author of The Devil Wears Prada) was going to be doing a book signing/reading at a Barnes & Noble here in Manhattan. I marked it on my calendar. This was the first time I ever attended such an event and thought it would be great for me for many reasons such as 1. Networking 2. Meet someone who is doing what I ultimately want to be doing 3. Inspiration for me.

I was tired and run down when the actual day rolled around and contemplated even going to this event after all. I was on the phone with one of my girlfriends while still at work in the early evening and she talked some sense into me as she usually does. And off I went. The event was short and sweet, under an hour. Upon arrival, I made my way to the event room and purchased Lauren’s new book, Last Night At Chateau Marmont then took a seat in the first row. I have been this way all of my life. I must be up front among all of the action. I settled in and browsed through my book while I awaited Lauren’s debut. Soon after 7:00pm someone from Barnes & Noble came to the podium to introduce Lauren to the very crowded room of fans who awaited her arrival. She graciously came out and spoke a few words. Immediately one got the sense that she is completely down to earth and witty. She read a small passage from her new book and then began to take questions from the audience. She made it a point to tell us that she “bribed” friends and family to come out and fill the room. Her Mom was sitting in the first row with such a proud smile on her face. It was sweet to observe. After the Q & A wrapped, we were able to form a line for the actual book signing. When my turn came, I told Lauren she is an inspiration to me and that I am working toward becoming a full-time writer. She was honest and told me it is a tough road but doable and I am on the right track due to the industry I’m currently working in and the people surrounding me. I came home and researched where she got her start which was a workshop here in the city. This was where The Devil Wears Prada was born.

I don’t have time for many deep thoughts throughout the day while my routine consists of chasing after 3 small babies all day long…. but when I read your posts you take this busy mommy back to a place that is full of my dreams and goals that were once so alive but put on the back burner months/ years ago. I know you work so hard at making progress and keeping your goals alive. You are a true inspiration to me. You are always so full of positivity and you’ve got me thinking deep tonight. Tomorrow I am going to refresh myself and get some goals together on paper. You are going places and I will be following you. Btw love the new blog! Fedora fedora;) and love the new clutch bag, classy as always. Love you xo

I’m so glad to hear you are going to come up with a few things you want to do for yourself! Although I cannot imagine the schedule you hold on a daily basis. Raising 3 children is MORE than a full time job! Although they are the cutest so it makes it easy I am sure! Keep me posted and thanks for keeping up with my blog. You are the best.
